Brainpower Meets Machine Power: Chat-GPT synergies with social scientists

The development of artificial intelligence techniques has numerous consequences for our activities. However, the rapid pace of adaptation is such that individuals often feel helpless and uncertain in the face of resulting technological changes. In response to this formidable challenge and its implications for our work, we are organizing a session featuring experts in this field.

B. Crabbé (University of Paris) will give an introductory presentation recounting the history of these contributions. K. Smaili (Loria, Lorraine University) will detail the mechanics inherent in the ChatGPT engine. D. Schwab (Université Grenoble Alpes University) will present the general principles and questions raised by OpenAI’s large language models. Finally, Paul Gay (Pau University and Paris-Saclay University) will focus on the environmental aspects related to the development of these technologies.

E. Dagorn (Ined) will ensure the follow-up of the presentations and initiate focused discussions during the conclusion.

Le développement des techniques d’intelligence artificielle a de nombreuses conséquences sur nos activités. La rapidité des adaptations est telle que chacun se trouve démuni, interrogatif face aux changements technologiques induits.  Nous vous proposons une séance axée sur ce formidable défi et ses implications sur nos métiers, en présence d’experts de ce domaine.

B. Crabbé (Université de Paris) fera une présentation introductive et relatant l‘historique de ces apports. K. Smaili (Université de Lorraine, Loria) détaillera la mécanique inhérente au moteur ChatGPT. D. Schwab (Laboratoire d’Informatique de Grenoble, Université Grenoble Alpes) présentera les principes généraux et questions soulevées par les modèles de langage large d’OpenAI. Enfin Paul Gay (Université de Pau, laboratoire LISN et Université Paris-Saclay) s’intéressera aux aspects environnementaux liés au développement de ces technologies. 

E. Dagorn (Ined) assurera le suivi des présentations et initiera les discussions axées lors de la conclusion.
